U.K, April 3 2019 (INDEPENDENT) Sales of products containing CBD, also known as cannabidiol, products have skyrocketed by 99 per cent in the UK, according to new data.

Analysis by online deals platform Wowcher reveals that purchases have almost doubled in 2019, with Brits rushing to invest in the ingredient that is now used in copious health and beauty products.

CBD is an all-natural compound found in the marijuana plant.

Not to be confused with Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive component in the plant that causes the sensation of getting “high”, CBD is renowned for it inflammatory properties and is also used in pain-relief products.

CBD oil is made from extracting CBD from the plant and diluting it with either hemp seed oil or coconut oil.

It’s becoming an increasingly popular ingredient in beauty products, with some studies claiming that it may help reduce symptoms of acne and prevent further breakouts.

Several celebrities, including Jennifer Aniston and Morgan Freeman, have also advocated the benefits of CBD.

Alexis Harrison, head of marketing at Wowcher, said: “It’s clear that the discussion around CBD’s health and beauty properties, hailed by celebrities, has influenced shoppers to rush for this trending ingredient.

“The past three months have seen a huge jump in Wowcher’s sales of CBD products – with CBD oil being the most popular. The popularity of CBD shows no signs of slowing, and we’re happy to offer a range of affordable CBD products to our customers.”
