Just a few weeks ago, before the pandemic landed on American soil, most everyone was happily humming along, going to work, and chasing their goals and dreams. Then, without warning, we were blindsided by a contagion, bringing much of our American culture to a halt. There’s little question, in these challenging, uncertain times, it feels like fear, and the unknown are trying to paralyze our progress, stunt our growth, or simply stop us in our tracks.
Amid a pandemic, unlike anything we’ve experienced in modern history, the very fabric of who we are and what we do as Americans is threatened as statewide lockdowns and stay-at-home orders wreak havoc across once busy, bustling cities. The coronavirus has brought our nation to a standstill.
However, one pioneering cannabis entrepreneur sees opportunity in our downtime. Max Simon, CEO, and founder of Green Flower Media, recognizes that now is the time to shine a spotlight on cannabis. We had the opportunity to speak with the forerunner in cannabis education last week about the impact of coronavirus and how his company is taking advantage of stay-at-home orders to bring cannabis education to living rooms across the world.
CANNABIS – FROM ILLEGAL TO ESSENTIAL OVERNIGHT
Ironically, the sudden impact of coronavirus made public what cannabis professionals have known for decades… cannabis is essential. Millions of people all around the globe consume cannabis for the sake of their well-being – whether that means treating a specific ailment, reducing stress, or simply getting a decent night’s sleep.
Before this happened, the cannabis industry was booming; cannabis employment was booming. “I think everyone’s in a bit of a state of grateful shock that cannabis has been deemed essential in many parts of the country. Most importantly, I think that means that the governments [of legal states] are embracing the true medicinal value and benefits, as well as recognizing the huge amount of tax revenue generated by the industry,” Simon stated.
It certainly seems that cannabis has come full circle. From a well-respected position in pre-1940s pharmacopeia to the murky shadows of the War on Drugs, out of the depths of the black market, and back into the forefront of alternative therapeutic options, support for cannabis over the years has been rocky at best.
To help overcome this smear campaign that lasted nearly seven decades, Simon is using his platform to set the record straight, provide truth in cannabis education, and offer people something productive to do while they’re quarantined.
EDUCATION FOR ALL… AND FOR FREE!
On Thursday, March 26, in response to the virus outbreak, Simon announced for a short window of time, Green Flower Media is offering their, usually $400 Cannabis Fundamentals course, absolutely free.
Simon declared, “We’ve understood that this is an important time to help people get focused and educated. So, we wanted to do something to give back to our communities right now.”
“This is a meaty, 15-hour course that goes through all the different sections of the foundation of cannabis,” he added. “And, it still allows people to get a certificate of completion when they pass.”
Besides helping the cannabis industry by improving on workers’ skillsets, the course doesn’t only touch base on the nuances of working in cannabis; it goes into the science and research behind the plant itself.
Elaborating Simon said, “The course touches base on a broad range of cannabis topics from cannabis history lessons to cannabinoids, terpenes, the endocannabinoid system, and product types. It provides a fundamental understanding of cannabis benefits, as well as the value of the opportunities in the industry.”
However, Simon also mentioned the less obvious benefits of learning about cannabis during a pandemic. “I think it’s also important for people’s health and wellness right now because it’ll keep people calm and sleeping well, out of pain, and feeling less stressed about the current insanity and state of the world. I think there are layers and layers of reasons people should take cannabis education seriously right now,” he confirmed.
“In a time of drastic change, it is the learners who inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists.”

MORE OPPORTUNITIES JUST AROUND THE CORNER
In addition to announcing the free Cannabis Fundamentals course, Simon also hinted at new coursework that is scheduled to be released in the coming months. “We’ve basically developed a cannabis MBA program,” he highlighted.
Extraordinarily robust, the upcoming course by Green Flower Media, Cannabis Business Essentials, gives students a clear understanding of how every facet of how the cannabis industry works, including cultivation, manufacturing, extraction, retail operations, delivery, and lab operation. More importantly, the course gives people a masterclass in how to succeed within these different sectors of the industry, as each session is led by a highly accomplished cannabis entrepreneur. The course also includes topics such as IP protection, branding, marketing, and compliance.
Although no business or individual will escape the pandemic unscathed, we can take steps to help ensure the impact we feel is followed by a quick plan for recovery. Thanks to the philanthropic endeavors by Max Simon and other entrepreneurs like him in the cannabis industry, that plan of redemption may include learning a new skill, changing careers, or simply learning how to take care of ourselves better.
